About Geospatial Information Science & Technology Online

Our Geospatial Information Science and Technology online degree programs are part of the larger geospatial community at NC State, housed within the Center for Geospatial Analytics and the College of Natural Resources.  The Masters of Geospatial Information Science and Technology online program began in 2010, and has quickly become one of the top online GIS degree programs in the country, alongside being the first GIS program to be recognized by the National Professional Science Masters Association.

Highlights about the Geospatial Information Science and Technology online programs:

  • More than 250 students currently active in the Masters of Geospatial Information Science and Technology and Graduate Certificate programs
  • More than 200 alumni working across a variety of sectors, including government (local, state, national), non-profits, and private industry
  • More than 70% students from North Carolina
  • 250 students currently active in the MGIST and Graduate Certificate programs
  • 13 lead faculty and 40 university GIST faculty covering 8 colleges and 12 departments
  • More than 12 GIS course offerings every semester
  • 75%  of students in the online programs
